Considering Breast Implant Removal?

What is Breast Implant Removal?

Breast implant removal surgery is ideal for women who are unhappy with the result of their breast augmentation, are unsatisfied with the way their breast implants have settled over time, or are concerned about their breast implants due to a leak or rupture. In these cases, breast implant removal surgery is a successful solution. Some patients choose to remove their breast implants when they experience persistent symptoms they believe may be associated with breast implant illness, with the goal of improving their comfort, health, and overall well-being.

En Bloc Capsulectomy

An “En bloc” capsulectomy means to remove the implant and the surrounding tissue together as a single unit. When implants are placed, your body goes into protection mode and forms a capsule around the implant. Attempting to remove the implant and capsule together is important to avoid further contamination of the area. This capsule may contain bacteria or silicone pieces from the breast implant that should not be left in the body.

How Is Breast Implant Removal Surgery Performed?

Our surgeons will remove your implants using small incisions to minimize the potential for scarring. If the implant has ruptured or leaked at all, they will remove any of the underlying issues caused by the implant. You may or may not have drains placed after your surgery to help the breast pockets contract.

Can I Replace My Breast Implants After Removal?

Yes, you may have your breast implants replaced immediately after when removing your old ones, or you can wait and proceed with a second surgery at a later date. Many women wish to replace their implants with a different size or shape than they previously had. This all would be discussed during your consultation.

Am I a Candidate for Breast Implant Removal?

If you have concerns about the condition of your current breast implants, then breast implant removal surgery may be right for you. If you would like to replace your breast implants because you are concerned about their size, shape, position, and appearance, you are a canidate for this procedure!
